Most valuation tools are reading dead meters

The data feeds the whole category was built on have been switched off, one by one. A tool still wired to them returns almost the same number for every site, because almost every input is now zero.

7 live signals per valuation

If one of them cannot be collected for a domain, the valuation page says which one and why. A missing signal is never quietly counted as a zero.

Traffic and popularity

How much of the web’s attention the domain gets, measured daily against the rest of the web rather than guessed from a traffic estimate.

This is the signal that replaced Alexa rank. Everything downstream — traffic, revenue, the multiple — is anchored to it.

Core Web Vitals

Loading, interaction and layout stability as real visitors experience them. Google has published these as page-experience signals since 2021.

Registration history

When the domain was first registered and how far ahead it is paid up. An established, renewed domain is a safer asset than a new one.

Link authority

How many independent sites reference this one, and how strong those sites are. Links remain one of Google’s confirmed ranking signals.

Threat status

Whether Google Safe Browsing currently reports malware or social-engineering on the domain.

Hosting and delivery

Where the site is served from, which platform it runs on, whether HTTPS is enforced and how fast it answered us.

Page content

The title, description and language the page declares about itself, plus the response code and how long it took to answer.

Questions people ask before trusting a number

How is a website value checker able to estimate what a site is worth?
This one reads seven live signals: how popular the domain is, how it performs for real Chrome visitors, how long it has been registered, who links to it, its threat status, how it is hosted and what its own pages say. Every constant in the arithmetic is published on the methodology page and read from the running engine, not retyped.
Is this an appraisal I can sell a website on?
No. It is an estimate built from public signals. What a buyer pays depends on revenue, costs and the terms of the sale, none of which are public. Treat the figure as a starting range and get a broker valuation before a transaction.
Why is the result a range instead of one number?
Because the inputs carry different confidence. A point estimate alone hides that, so every valuation shows the range it sits inside as well as the single figure.
What happens when some of the signals are unavailable?
The page says so. It names which of the seven were missing and states that the estimate rests on less evidence than usual, rather than printing a number as if everything had been read.
Do you use Alexa rank or Google PageRank?
No. Alexa shut down in 2022 and PageRank stopped being published in 2016, so any tool still printing them is reading a dead meter. The methodology page lists each retired signal and what replaced it.

Every figure above is explained in full on the methodology page.
