PHP4 is a very old version of PHP and is not supported anymore. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade to a newer version of PHP, such as PHP 7.4 or 8.0. However, if you still need to upgrade from PHP4 to PHP5 for some reason, you can follow the steps below:<\/p>\n

  1. Install the PHP5 packages:\n
    \n
    <\/div>\n
    sudo pkg install php56
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    This will install PHP5.6 and all the necessary dependencies.<\/li>\n

  2. Stop the Apache web server:\n
    \n
    <\/div>\n
    sudo service apache24 stop<\/span>
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  3. Disable the PHP4 module:\n
    \n
    <\/div>\n
    sudo a2dismod php4
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  4. Enable the PHP5 module:\n
    \n
    <\/div>\n
    sudo a2enmod php5
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  5. Restart the Apache web server:\n
    \n
    <\/div>\n
    sudo service apache24 start<\/span>
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  6. Verify that PHP5 is now the default version:\n

    <\/div>\n
    php -v
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    This should show the version of PHP5 installed on your system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Note that upgrading from PHP4 to PHP5 may cause compatibility issues with your existing PHP code. You may need to update your PHP code to make it work with PHP5.
