In FreeBSD, it is possible to move the \/usr<\/code> or \/var<\/code> file systems to another hard disk. The steps below will guide you through the process:<\/p>\n

  1. Backup the contents of the \/usr<\/code> or \/var<\/code> file system to the new hard disk. You can use rsync<\/code> for this purpose:\n

    In the above example, \/dev\/ada0p3<\/code> is the old partition and \/dev\/ada1p3<\/code> is the new partition. Replace \/usr<\/code> with \/var<\/code> if you are moving the \/var<\/code> file system.<\/li>\n

  4. Mount the new \/usr<\/code> or \/var<\/code> file system:\n
    \n
    <\/div>\n
    sudo mount \/usr
    \n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    In the above command, replace \/usr<\/code> with \/var<\/code> if you are moving the \/var<\/code> file system.<\/li>\n

  5. Reboot the system to ensure that the new file system is mounted correctly:\n
