You can remotely shut down a Linux or Unix computer from a Microsoft Windows computer using the ssh<\/code> protocol and the shutdown<\/code> command. Here’s how:<\/p>\n

  1. Download and install an ssh<\/code> client for Windows, such as PuTTY.<\/li>\n
  2. Open the PuTTY client.<\/li>\n
  3. In the Host Name (or IP address) field, enter the hostname or IP address of the Linux or Unix computer you want to shut down.<\/li>\n
  4. Click the Open button.<\/li>\n
  5. In the PuTTY terminal window, log in to the Linux or Unix computer with your username and password.<\/li>\n
  6. Run the following command to shut down the computer:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The -h<\/code> option tells the shutdown<\/code> command to halt the system, and the now<\/code> argument tells the command to shut down immediately.<\/p>\n
